Large Scale Contest VS Small Scale Contest
A lot of bloggers are having/ or had some sorts of contest on their blogs. In case you don’t know, contest is a marvelous way to gain traffic as well as gain loyal readers.

Contests are great, but there are two types of contest that you should know; large scale and small scale.Large scale contest can be defined as contest that have prizes over $1,000 worth of money and does not only include the blogger himself/ herself. Look at the contest I recently launched (July 2008 contest). I am giving away over $2,000 worth of prizes to 5 winners with sponsorships from major bloggers.
That is large scale contest. Large scale contest may not be ideal to new bloggers, but for those who have blog for like 6 months, it is worth every efforts you spent on it. Large scale contest teaches you to make friends with fellow competitors (in my case, MMO bloggers) and managing your time properly.
The turnover from large scale contest should be big if you are confident of the amount of traffic that you got monthly are sufficient to create a better turnover. GradeMoney has about 400 or more visitors a day. It is very difficult to get a good turnover because many came to this blog because of an article I wrote that struck the Internet world, not because of making money online.
Nevertheless, I was lucky to acquire quite a number of good sponsorships.
Small scale contest can be easily defined as a contest that involves the bloggers and readers and nothing else. Usually, the prizes can be domain names, iPods, some cash and Entrecard credits.
Although small scale contest sounds “not so rewarding” compared to large scale contest, it does has its own pros. Small contest normally ensure a better success because you wouldn’t lose much money because you will not be putting in much money.
Small scale contests are very common and it’s a good way to increase your RSS subscribers as well as traffic. However, many bloggers today took such contest for granted.
Remember, when you prizes are small, do not expect your readers to blog about your contest or your blog. Unless your prizes are worth over $1,000, don’t be an idiot and asked for a review just to participate in your contest.
Remember that your main goal is to rake in as much participants as you can. Good luck.
